To fix a clog in the vacuum, whether it is a canister or bag, use your finger to feel for a clog. Pull as much of it out as you can and discard.

If the attachment hose has no suction, either it or the hose suction port is clogged. Try sucking out the clog with a strong vacuum. If that doesn't work, use the bent hanger technique shown in Photo 3 to remove the clog. Stubborn clogs in hoses can be forced through with a broom handle (Photo 2).
Simple products you have around the home can help break up the clog. Pour boiling water down the drain to help loosen any soap scum that's holding the clog in place. Another trick is to pour a cup of baking soda down the drain followed by a cup of vinegar. The chemical reaction can dissolve the clog.

Once clogged with sand, many of the common suggestions used for cleaning out drains will not work. Draino will not remove sand and washing more water down the drain, obviously, will also not be an option.
Mix baking soda and vinegar if a buildup of grease is clogging your line. Since baking soda is slightly caustic, it will eat away at any grease on the pipes. Combine 1 part baking soda and 1 part vinegar, then pour it into the sewer cleanout opening. Wait at least 1 hour before flushing it with hot water.
Average Plumber Rates
The cost of a plumber ranges from $500 to $800 for large repairs, and $125 to $350 for small jobs like repairing toilets, sinks, faucets, or bathtubs. Most plumbers charge between $45 and $150 per hour, and some have a minimum service call out fee or a flat rate of $75 to $250 on average.“Anytime sand enters a drain, the main concern is that it will cause a clog,” says Frank Horvath, a licensed plumber and owner of Benjamin Franklin Plumbing in Toms River, a beach town on the Jersey Shore. “Sand itself won't damage the pipes or cause problems, but the stoppages it creates will.”
When the vents in your plumbing drain system are clogged, the flow of water can slow down or stop altogether. On the other hand, partial blockages can cause the pipes to gurgle in the same way as a bottle full of water does when you pour the contents quickly. That gurgling sound should alert you to vent problems.
If that doesn't work, disconnect the drain trap, (again, keep a bucket handy.) These clogs can be caused by object such as a toothpaste cap or a hairband which can be quickly disposed of. If this isn't the cause, loosen the trap arm and pull it straight out of wall. If you now see a visible obstruction, remove it.
Another way to clear a clogged double kitchen sink is to use a salt and boiling water solution. First, remove the standing water from the sink. Then pour a half cup of salt down both drains, followed by boiling water. Wait five minutes and run hot water down the drain to clear it of the solution.

- Pull the underground drain, which is often a black, corrugated, plastic pipe, away from the end of the downspout.
- Place the end of a plumber's auger, also known as a snake, into the underground gutter.
- Turn the handle counterclockwise if it becomes hard to turn; it's likely you've encountered a blockage.
Some clogs can be fixed by pouring baking soda down the drain, followed by vinegar, and letting the mixture sit for a few hours before flushing. The buildup of grease can be removed using baking soda and salt, followed by boiling water. You can use a plunger to take care of some blockages.

If Drano Is Not Working
Pouring 1/2 cup of baking soda down the drain, followed five minutes later by 1 cup of vinegar, is often an effective solution to clogs caused by grease or soapy buildup. The combination will fizz a bit and should be left for about 30 minutes before running hot water to flush the pipes.
