Wipe off the dipstick with your rag or paper towel, then take a look at the indicator marks. A typical dipstick has two marks: F (Full) and L (Low); Min and Max; or two dots or lines. Pull the dipstick all the way out and read the oil level on its tip.

How to Reset the Oil Light After an Oil Change
- Turn the car's systems on, but leave the engine off.

Insert an automotive funnel in to the oil filler hole and pour in about 4.5 quarts of the engine's 5 quart total oil capacity.
